Mold remediation
Mold remediation is the process of fixing the moisture source, containing the area, removing contaminated material and cleaning, so that indoor mold returns to normal background levels.
Mold remediation starts with water. CDC says any mold growing in a building points to a water or moisture problem that should be addressed right away. If the leak stays, the mold comes back, no matter how well the surface was cleaned.
CDC lists the core steps. Dry wet materials within 48 hours or remove them. Repair what lets water in. Use proper containment when you find mold on materials. And warns that painting over moldy or water-damaged surfaces causes more problems.
A crew will usually set up containment, run a negative air machine, remove materials that cannot be saved, and clean what remains.
For Missouri owners, note that EPA says spores cannot be fully removed from indoor air, so the goal is control, not zero. Learn how to confirm results in mold inspection. Fix the water first, then remediate. The order matters more than the products.
