Asbestos
Asbestos survey
Asbestos survey is a building inspection by a certified inspector who samples suspect materials for laboratory analysis before renovation or demolition, so you know what contains asbestos.
An asbestos survey answers one question before work begins: what in this building contains asbestos, and where is it? A certified inspector walks the site, notes suspect materials, and takes small samples. A lab then reports the results.
The federal NESHAP requires a thorough inspection where a demolition or renovation will take place. In Missouri, a person who does an asbestos inspection must be certified by the DNR.
A good survey covers more than floors. It checks pipe wrap, ceiling texture, joint compound, roofing, siding and adhesive layers. It also records amounts, which matter for the RACM thresholds.
Order the survey early. It takes time to collect samples and get lab results, and the findings shape your budget, your schedule and your choice of crew. A survey done after the walls are open is a survey done too late. Keep the written report. Regulators and contractors will ask for it.
