## Does Advanced Environmental Services work in Columbia, Missouri?

Yes. AES lists Columbia as part of its service area, with St. Louis and St. Charles, Missouri. The office is at 3100 Gravois Ave in St. Louis, about 125 miles from Boone County without traffic. Treat Columbia as a travel market and plan lead time.

OSRM, a free routing tool, estimates 125.1 miles and about 152 minutes from our office to the Boone County Government Center. That is a free-flow estimate. Real trips vary with traffic and weather. A distant job needs earlier scheduling, a clear scope and a site walk that someone can arrange in advance. AES does not claim a Columbia office.

AES also holds Missouri DNR asbestos contractor registration 27-06-0640. It serves residential, commercial, industrial, governmental and healthcare customers. See the [asbestos abatement](https://aes.multisites.ai/asbestos-abatement) page for scope.

## Which permits and notices apply in Columbia and Boone County?

Boone County says it does not require a demolition permit. It points asbestos removal questions to the Boone County Health Department, and notes that the City of Columbia has its own planning and inspection departments. State asbestos rules still apply: notify Missouri DNR at least 10 working days before a regulated project.

Columbia’s Public Health and Human Services serves both the city and Boone County, so start there for health-side questions. For a controlled burn of a structure, the county suggests the Boone County Fire Protection District. Inside city limits, call the city before you hire crews. Verify each step as of October 2026, because local rules change.

## How old are the homes in Columbia?

Newer than in St. Louis. About 28.8% of Columbia’s 56,162 housing units were built before 1980, and 19.2% before 1970, per the 2024 American Community Survey. Boone County overall is slightly older, at 30.4% before 1980.

That does not mean no asbestos. A building from 1975 can still have vinyl tile, joint compound or pipe wrap. It means fewer buildings are at risk, so a survey before work is the cheap way to know. Read about an [asbestos survey](https://aes.multisites.ai/glossary/asbestos-survey). AES offers [asbestos testing](https://aes.multisites.ai/asbestos-testing) and an [asbestos survey](https://aes.multisites.ai/asbestos-survey). ## What does Columbia’s water report say about PFAS?

Columbia’s water comes from groundwater wells and serves more than 51,000 customers. The Columbia Missourian reported in January 2024 that PFAS turned up in four of the city’s 17 wells, all between 2 and 4 parts per trillion, and that it was the first detection. The city’s 2025 report lists PFOS and PFOA results too.

The city’s 2025 water quality report also lists PFOS and PFOA results; read it for the current values. EPA’s PFAS drinking water rule status changes, so check EPA’s own page for the current standard rather than a summary.

Learn the terms: [PFAS](https://aes.multisites.ai/glossary/pfas), [parts per trillion](https://aes.multisites.ai/glossary/parts-per-trillion-ppt) and [PFOS](https://aes.multisites.ai/glossary/pfos). Read our [PFAS drinking water rule explained](https://aes.multisites.ai/guides/pfas-drinking-water-rule-explained) guide. A city report covers treated water, not your well, soil or building. AES offers [PFAS testing](https://aes.multisites.ai/pfas-testing) and [PFAS remediation](https://aes.multisites.ai/pfas-remediation). Its site says “Our team is available 24/7 for urgent cleanup needs.”

## Are there Superfund sites in Boone County?

No. Missouri DNR’s National Priorities List shows 33 sites in Missouri, and none are in Boone County. A listing is only one kind of record, so a clean list does not clear a specific parcel. Soil and groundwater questions still need a property review.

For land or building transactions, ask for environmental records first. AES offers [soil contamination testing](https://aes.multisites.ai/soil-contamination-testing) and [soil remediation](https://aes.multisites.ai/soil-remediation).

## How should I plan a job that is 125 miles from the AES office?

Send details early and plan the notice period into the schedule. A job in Columbia needs the same steps as any Missouri project, plus lead time for travel. Early information lets AES scope the work before a site visit.

1. **Gather the basics.** Address, building age, what you plan to renovate or demolish, and any past survey.
2. **Order a survey if you have none.** Results set the scope for abatement or demolition.
3. **Build in the notice.** DNR requires notice at least 10 working days before a regulated project starts.
4. **Check city and county steps.** Boone County requires no demolition permit, but the City of Columbia has its own departments.
5. **Ask AES about timing.** Confirm the site walk, the start date and the expected duration in writing.

Your best first call is to (314) 865-2662. Nothing here is a claim about past AES work in Columbia.
